Description
The Office of Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), within the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) seeks to establish a partnership to build the next iteration of the Diagnostics/Medical Devices Hub as part of the BARDA Accelerator Network (BAN 2.0) using BARDA's Other Transaction Authority (OTA). With BAN 2.0, BARDA aims to further enhance the global health security innovation ecosystem, optimize startup acceleration and wrap-around services, and ultimately develop an Accelerator Network as a scalable infrastructure for commercialization including active product development support, and validation capabilities during regular operations as well as rapid response during public health emergencies. Similar to the current BAN Hubs, the Diagnostics/Medical Devices Hub will support BARDA's mission by addressing the following objectives/tasks, with a focus on innovators and companies that fit within the diagnostics/medical devices space: Provide wraparound acceleration services, including entrepreneurship education and access to business/commercialization and technical expertise and resources, to BARDA-aligned innovators and companies developing health security solutions. Provide BARDA with capabilities to source, review, fund, and accelerate innovators and companies and perform product development, evaluation, and validation of MCMs based on BARDA's strategic priorities. Build a rapid emergency response infrastructure to fund and accelerate product development and validation of MCMs that can be developed and deployed as quickly as possible in the event of a public health emergency. BARDA intends to enter into an Other Transaction Agreement with an organization to provide resources and support for the Diagnostics/Medical Devices focus area: Diagnostics/ Medical Devices Focus on diagnostics and devices to enable pathogen-agnostic surveillance, detection, and diagnosis, especially at point-of-care and at-home settings, and innovative medical devices to improve the quality of casualty care, alert to the potential of an adverse health condition, simplify the collection or processing of testing samples, and protect respiratory health The Accelerator Hub can operate independently or as a consortium of partners, though one legal entity must be identified as the prime awardee to enter into an agreement with BARDA. It is anticipated that the Accelerator Hub will provide funding and/or services to mission-relevant innovators nationally, regardless of the Hub's physical location.
