Description
The Phoenix Epidemiologic and Clinical Research Branch (PECRB), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, National Institutes of Health, requires a metabolic measurement system capable of measuring oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide production, ventilation, and energy expenditure in human research participants. The equipment will be used to conduct human physiology research studies focused on metabolic disease, including obesity, and diabetes. These studies require accurate measurement of respiratory gas exchange and metabolic responses during both resting conditions and physical activity. The current metabolic measurement system used by PECRB is approaching the end of its operational lifespan and requires replacement to maintain reliable metabolic data collection. Acquisition of a new system will ensure the continued ability to perform metabolic testing and exercise physiology studies in human research participants. The metabolic measurement system must support both resting metabolic testing and graded exercise testing and must integrate with a research grade treadmill to allow controlled physical activity during metabolic measurements
