The following is a brief description of services that are required to be performed but not limited to: A. Introduction: The United States Geological Survey (USGS), Geology, Geophysics, and Geochemistry Science Center (GGGSC) Denver, CO has a requirement for annual preventative maintenance and service contract is required to maintain and repair the Nu Instrument NP2 (with NP3 upgrade) multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (MC-ICP-MS). Included in the contract are most of the necessary parts and labor to effectively diagnose, repair, and replace essential operating components of the instrument, software updates, and one preventative maintenance service visit per year. B. Background: The USGS Geology, Geophysics, and Geochemistry Science Center maintains and operates a Nu Plasm 2 MC-ICP-MS in the High Resolution Laboratory, Building 20, Denver Federal Center. The instrument provides critical isotope ratio research data for USGS research efforts on critical mineral and ore formation, and other Federal, State and University collaborations. The instrument also provide data for collaborators such as EPA, NASA, DOJ, DOE, BLM, and DHS and non-Federal entities such as Colorado School of Mines, University of Tennessee, and others. The instrument is comprised of several critical subsystems including turbo pumps, RF generator, faraday and ion counter detectors, proprietary software, and electronics. The NP2 instrument must always be maintained in full operating condition and to the manufacturer¿s specifications. This is necessary because of the strict scientific requirements of USGS scientists and our Quality Management System as well as our obligation to USGS science and OFA clients.
